The World is going green. At Parker Cottage your next stay in Cape Town can be green too. Parker Cottage is an old heritage Guest House with luxuriant finishes that doesn’t cost the earth. Quite literally. It is the first Heritage Guest House that aims to be completely off-grid by 2012. What’s more, it’s a pleasure to stay here.

Many people assume that concern for the environment and luxury were somehow incompatible terms. If you want an environmentally conscious holiday, you have to be prepared to sleep in tents, hug trees and wear funny clothes. But at Parker, we show clearly that luxury and a minimum impact on the environment can go hand in hand.

Parker is a small, owner-managed business with five permanent staff, six if you count Busby.  We’re Liz and Phil, (the owners), and came to Cape Town from the Eastern Cape (Grahamstown) in 2006. We bought Parker Cottage in 2008 after a couple of years running another guesthouse, Mountain Magic Suites.

We’re also academics by profession: Liz works in the sociology of education and is writing her Phd at the moment and Phil has a consultancy, English for Africa, that develops language solutions for business and educational institutions.
