Winning Habit Number 6: Recognising, Creating, and Seizing Opportunities

Winners train themselves to become expert opportunity spotters, expert opportunity creators and expert opportunity takers.

Opportunity doesn’t come knocking at your door very often but it is always wandering nearby just waiting for you to come out and introduce yourself.

Winning Habit Number 7: Recognising and Managing Your Weaknesses and Risks

Winners do not fear their weaknesses nor do they fear risk. They know that these are simply part of the world we live in. Winners who win consistently have developed good risk management and weakness management skills and they use them daily.

Having sound risk management strategies in place can free up your mind so that you can focus your thoughts, energy and actions on producing profits and success in your life.

The world seems fascinated with weight loss, some for health reasons and others for cosmetic. Obesity is on the increase and weight can make a significant contribution to serious health conditions. When people are overweight, self-confidence takes a dive and often leads to comfort eating, which in turn increased weight. It should come as no surprise that many people try harsh diets that never work, extreme exercise regimens that may result in injuries or other weight loss programmes that end without success.

The reason why so many of these weight loss methods only seem to provide a short term fix and do not deliver a long term solution is because in order to stay with a diet or exercise programme, you have to really enjoy it. Not only that, but it has to be safe as well. Fad diets, celebrity promoted exercise programmes and weight loss pills and potions will help you to shed a few pounds, but as soon as you start to eat “normally” again, the weight often returns.

So here are 5 genuine suggestions to help you lose weight, which almost anyone can do, without excluding your favourite foods from your diet or spending every spare minute of your time in the gym.

Realistically, any weight loss program will take time. Diets which promise you instant results are either not being completely honest or are simply uninformed. At worst, they may be downright dangerous. As a suggestion, set yourself a realistic target and then follow one single weight loss programme for one month. Don’t weight yourself every day as your weight can fluctuate on a daily basis. I suggest you weigh yourself once a week to check your progress. If you are not losing weight in proportion to your target, first check that you are following the programme correctly. In the meantime, try the following suggestions to help burn off the calories.

Walking is an ideal form of exercise. If you can set aside 30 minutes every day to enjoy a leisurely stroll, you will be strengthening your legs and your heart while burning some calories in the process. With any exercise, start slowly and build up over a period of time. Your leisurely stroll will soon turn into a brisk walk and 30 minutes transform into an hour of excellent cardiovascular exercise!

A second ideal form of exercise is to get on your bike! I suggest you consult your Doctor BEFORE starting on any strenuous exercise to avoid causing any undue stress on your body, but cycling is a great form of exercise and is great fun. You may chose to cycle to work instead of taking the car, if this is possible, which also helps the environment. If you are fortunate enough to live in rural area, cycling enables you to enjoy the scenery often missed when you are behind the wheel of a car.

The next time you have a choice, take the stairs instead of an escalator or lift. This is a fantastic weight loss exercise which you can fit into your daily routine without even noticing the extra effort. Something as simple as walking up a couple of flights of stairs every day can make all the difference where weight loss is concerned. The next time you go to the supermarket, park in the middle of the car park and walk to the store. Avoid parking in the closest spot to the door, which is tempting, but opt to walk instead.

Do not cut out all of your favourite foods from your diet, but eat them in moderation. There is no single food that will completely hinder your weight loss attempt but, all foods if consumed excessively will certainly halt any attempt at weight loss. Cutting out the foods you enjoy will cause cravings and may lead to binge eating. So there is no reason to cut out your favourite food when a conservative amount of the things we love can still have a place in our lives, including during times when you are focusing on losing weight.

One of the major reasons people give for failure to lose weight when on a diet, or for never actually starting is TIME. Whatever exercise routine you decide to adopt it is imperative that you set aside a certain time each day to do it. Some people decide to get up an hour early to go for a walk, jog or cycle ride. It’s a proven fact that people who set a routine are much more likely to stay with it and find success than those who simply exercise only when they have time.

The secret to successful weight loss is:

  • know what you want your ideal weight to be
  • prepare a realistic eating and exercise plan to achieve it
  • make a commitment to yourself to take consistent action to achieve your plan
  • think of ways to make losing weight fun such as walking, jogging or cycling with a friend
  • do not give up – you can overcome any obstacle in your way to achieving your perfect weight

First you should figure out is what your expenses are and what is left over for pleasure. {In my opinion|I think a simple formula to use is each of you takes twenty percent from the paycheck every week to deposit into a personal account. That cash is for you and you alone. You can use it to buy a fancy pair of shoes, football tickets or anything you desire. The remaining 80% is placed in a joint account that covers living expenses such as food, mortgage, retirement planning, car payments etc.. This way if you choose to treat yourself, you will be using your money to do so.

STAY ON THE SAME PAGE: This is vastly important. Know what’s going on. One of you could know a bunch more about personal finances. There aren’t many things more exciting in a relationship then learning together and knowing the same things. If you both know where the money is going, in what way it is being invested and what investments to make there will always be an understanding. There is little more heartbreaking than when one person makes a solo decision and loses out. If you constantly inform each other of financial opportunities and financial decisions it will be more difficult to make silly mistakes. As the saying goes, two minds are better than one.

Relationships are always a work in progress. It is inevitable that you will run into problems and not see eye to eye with your partner all of the time. Finances are one conflict that can easily be avoided with an open line of communication, goal setting, planning and understanding. If you and your spouse can communicate honestly when it comes to finances and put the right plan in place, your relationship with each other and with money will grow stronger and stronger every day.

After puberty, most kids think they are already adults ready to face the world; luckily, parents are wise enough to know that this is not true. However, parents may think too little of their teens to a point that they still treat them as kids whose ideas are just kid stuff.

The truth of the matter is, the teenager is more mature than kids, albeit still not mature enough – this means that your teenager may have something to say about themselves or the way they wish to be treated. Listen to what they say first before saying what you think. Oftentimes, parents just stubbornly and automatically deflect anything their teens have to say, this in turn makes the teenager just act like their stubborn parents and become stubborn teenagers.

When stubborn teenagers give their perspective, acknowledge it even if you do not agree. It is important for stubborn teenagers to know that you have heard their opinion on things. But you do not necessarily have to follow it or agree with it, after all, in most cases, your teen may just be asking for your advice or if you have other ideas in mind. After acknowledging your teen’s idea it is then you can say what you think should be.

To deal with stubborn teenagers, imagine yourself in your teenager’s shoes. You were also a teenager years or decades ago and you should know how difficult such times were. But do not dwell too much on your own experiences because your teen is probably facing different challenges in life. A lot of parents say things like “I know better because I have been there” in hopes of preventing their children from doing something. But that is actually an invitation for the child to be even more curious of such circumstances.

Another way to deal with stubborn teenagers is to avoid making use of labels when talking to your child, especially during arguments. Labels might sound meaningless when you blurt them out, but they can easily get into your teenager’s mind whether the label is positive or negative. It is important to allow your teenager to let him or her self be without labels being attached. Otherwise, stubbornness might stem from your teenager’s effort to veer away from the labels.

Try to avoid debating with your child about matters of opinion. Even if debates occur to convince a party of your opinion, what it actually does is to strengthen the other party’s hold on their opinion as both of you create reasons for believing your stand. In this case it is better to show why your opinion might be better and allow your teenager to see for himself or herself what makes you think you are right.

Stubbornness is somewhat inevitable for teenagers, but it might actually be a necessary trait at this point where they are developing their identities. What matters is that you are there for them at this critical stage with much love and understanding. With an open mind and a sound heart you would be able to know how to deal with stubborn teenagers.

Depressive disorder is no one’s fault, but those with depression do have the power to get treatment and find out how to handle their depression.

Depression treatments can range from counseling and therapy, to the use of antidepressant drugs. Group psychotherapy can be helpful for teenagers and children by providing a safe place to share their experience with others.
